Ingredients
The good thing about this dish is that it won't burn a deep hole in your pocket. Here is the simple list of ingredients, should be available in the store round the corner or a mall in case you live in one of those god forsaken places :)
- 1/4 kg carrot - nicely grated
- 1/4 ltr milk
- 1 cup sugar
- Cardamom powder - 1/4th spoon
- Badam
- Kishmish
- Cashew nuts
- 1/2 cup ghee
All right master chef, here you go. Here are your dozen simple steps to success
- Grate the carrots nicely (don't hurt your finger, slow and easy)
- Add milk to it (milking your way to success)
- Keep them in cooker - 3 whistles (1....2....3...stay attentive)
- Take it out & stir the mixture of milk and carrot in low flame (sing a song so you don get bored)
- Wait until water portion goes away to an extent (not completely dry) - (you know what I mean)
- Make sure there isn't too much water before adding sugar (the purpose is to make Halwa.. not Payasam ..If Halwa doesn't come right I am holding you accountable)
- Add a cup of sugar or more depending on the sweetness (less sweet than mysorepak and more sweet than kaju barfi.....or however you like it )
- Mix it well so that sugar melts
- Add cardamom powder
- Add dry fruits which are sorted in ghee (Good for stamina, tastes nice too)
- When sugar melts completely and loses its rawness add ghee (Quiz, is ghee veg or non veg? :))
- Stir it till ghee, sugar and carrot blends nicely (To blend right is the key)
Now taste it, infact eat a couple of spoons and wait for 15 minutes. If you are still alive you are ready to treat your guest to a mouth watering dish. Hopefully your hardwork pays off. All the best :)
